Today In class I discussed the current event of Secure Communities in Massachusetts. The Secure Communities act was ordered by ICE ( U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and it says any criminal under police custody must give ICE fingerprints of the criminal to make sure that he or she is a legal immigrant. The act has had two different reactions to this. Some people like the ICE Organization are for the law well others like Governor Deval Patrick are against it. Deval Patrick believes that we should have a law cutting down on illegal immigration but he doesn't believe that this law is the solution.
During my presentation I also got questions about how the ICE Organization can have our fingerprints when we didn't have them taken. This program is searching though peoples criminal records. Thats why if your taken to a police station for a crime you get your fingerprint taken for your police record.
The Secure Communities Act is a very important current issue especially in Massachusetts. Do you believe it is appropriate? Are you For or Against This Law? Explain your reasoning.
I do beleive this is an appropriate act but i dont beleive it will work because they dont have everyones fingerprint in the united states so i think this is pointless unless the immigrant is a criminal
ReplyDeleteI agree... This is a good idea on how to fix the illegal immigration problem, but its not going to work. I feel this idea would just be a waste of time and money. There is better ways we could do moniter this issue. I feel like this could be a start, but too many flaws
ReplyDeleteDos the I.C.E. have everyone's fingerprints? because if they're only using the finger prints to determine whether someone is illegal or not, then how can they tell if they don't have everyone's prints?
ReplyDeletei think this is a good act. It can really help us determine all the illegal immigration. But i do not think they have everyone finger pricks. It will be hard to find the illegal immigrants with not every ones finger prints.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be an effective solution to this immigration problem we are facing in the U.S. if they had everyone fingerprints in their system. I think it is a good start but this law by itself is not going to entirely fix the problem. It most likely will do its job in finding some illegal aliens but there is no way that this law alone will be the solution.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't believe ICE is appropriate. I am against this law because I believe it won't solve our problem in the U.S. with illegal immigrants. It would be far too long of a process to get the fingerprints of every person who may or may not be an illegal and some illegals might not even be in the system.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that there is a reason for the secure communities act because the FBI already has the fingerprints of people that have criminal record so I don't see the point in it. I'm not against the idea of of the secure communities act but I don't believe in it.
ReplyDeleteI think that ICE would be useless because we have other government organizations that do very similar things that ICE does.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this is appropriate to fingerprint all people who are brought in for crimes and also to fingerprint children in case something were to happen to them and they needed identification. but on the other side i don't believe it will help with immigration issues because if they are an immigrant why would ICE have their finger prints in the first place? it doesn't make a lot of sense on that side.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think its a good way to find the illegal immigrants, but only if they caused a crime to get their fingerprints. So in the end it's just a way to catch immigrants who made a serious criminal act. It might not catch the other immigrants, but they didn't hurt anyone.
ReplyDeleteI think is a fine way to identifie illegal immigrants who have done something false to our society and might of caused a crime. This act is not nessory to me because, i believe we do that to normal american's aswell and take in information, we would know if there illegal possibly but overall the act is okay, the government is worried about our country. We don't want bad Immigrants doing wrong things and getting away with it which could potentially hurt us.
