Unemployment Benefits due to expire

On April 10th, 2012 the extend benefits for unemployed workers will expire. The extended benefits is provided if someone needs more money until they find a job but it doesnt last forever. When someone exhausts there benefits from the state completely the federal government steps in and provides an Emergency Unemployed Benefits. EUC has been set to expire in January of 2013. There has been many people pushing for the government to renew the policy that says these benefits need to expire.  People are hopeful that a new government will do just that. Is it fair for the government to just take the benefits away? If they extend them how long should it be extended for?

  1. I don't think that it is fair that the government can just take peoples benefits away. People are unable to get by without those benefits and it puts a lot of people in a tougher situation than they are already in. I feel that these benefits should be permanent although I would imagine it would be tough to make them permanent.

  2. I agree with Jd . Once peoples benefits are taken away the family or unemployed member is just getting put into a deeper whole that they cant get out of and it forces a lot of people out of homes its not putting people back on their feet like its supposed to do .

  3. i agree with jd and mitch. i dont think it is right to take peoples unenployment away. some people really rely on it so theu can live. if they take these benifits away it will put more people into harder places than they need to be. i think they should be extensed untill they dont need it anymore.

  4. I do not think that it would be fair to take the benefits away, although some people take advantage of these benefits but there are many people who rely on the income these benefits give to them. I think if they are going to take them away they should make sure they only taking them away from the people who really do not need them.

  5. I agree with everyone. It is not fair for the government to just take away these benefits. For some people this is their only income and to take that way would be devastating. I do think they should extend the benefits indefinitely because poverty stricken people need some sort of backbone.

  6. I think that some people will take advantage of these government benefits. They are meant for people who have unavoidable misfortunes and need a little help to get back on their feet. I don't think the government should just take away the benefits but they should require the beneficiaries to show some sort of proof that they are still working hard to find a job.

  7. It is not fair if the government takes these benefits away especially because the government doesn't seem to be doing a lot to help us out of poverty. As we all know it is very hard to get out of poverty and that is why people resort to criminal acts and then get sent to jail but when they are out of jail they can't get any jobs. How can anyone especially the government expect people to get out of poverty when they are being discriminated against and can't get jobs.

  8. I don't believe it's fair for the government to take unemployed workers benefits away. Many people who are out of work need to rely on collecting unemployment to get by and taking these benefits away would make situations worst. On the other hand, many people take advantage of these benefits and ruin the system for honest people.

  9. Ending the benifits would devistate alot of familys who have parents out of work and end up causeing them more trouble, but at the same time i think the people who are getting these benifits, unless a physical or mental probldm is blocking them from getting a job should maybe move somewhere that a job is abaliable for them because then they will be helping the american economy instead of the issue of debt being why the benifits are in question of ending

  10. I feel they shouldnt take them away like everyone else is saying, but i also dont think we should exstend it either. We are as a country is such a dept that we cant just give people money for their problems. We need to get people pushed to get a job, even if its a minimum wage job till they find a better job. I feel if we should subsadise people. We should do that to the people with minimal jobs. Not ones with no jobs. People shouldnt feel above any jobs to take it for a wile.

  11. I agree with JD saying that it is unfair to just take away peoples benifits. People rely to help them through life. If you just take those away, you are basically giving that person no hope what so ever. Its just not fair and if we keep worrying about our countries poverty problem than we need to start helping them as much as possible. Taking away benifits is certainly one way of not helping,

  12. I think it is not fair for the government to take away the benefits away because it means things will only get tougher. This is because the people who can not get by with out these benefits will envitably be the one who end up suffering.

  13. It's definitely not fair that the government is taking away this policy, i know many people who rely on this coverage, Most people can't get a job efficiently, and this is hard. I think the government feels to mistaken, Think about the percentage of people who don't go to college and don't have jobs, lack of education cause's people to have problems with money thus potentially losing there house or trying to make a living. I think if someone get's fired for something, they should get coverage until they get another job, I propose that the government should limit how much they give, PLUS a time of how long they will be covered until he or she get's another job --> potentially the government should limit the amount they give, yes it should be fair to pay expense, but it depends on there living grounds. If he or she has family's they should therefore live with them until then. And i don't blame the government as much, but the people really need to VOTE. voting is essential like Mrs. Viviorto stated, if we keep voting stupid senate people or representatives then we won't progress. VOTING is the problem, careless people supposedly say stuff but know they can fulfill it proportionally. Truth nobody's perfect, but the fact is unemployed coverage is needed.

  14. And i also agree with Mary. People who do come out of prison, don't really have a chance at all, and there records give possible rejects (well majority) from even getting a JOB! unbelievable, the government cannot do this, And people who leave prison don't always go back to being bad, they should learn the proper way on how to live and respect the aspect of financial help.

  15. I dont think that its fair that the government take all the benefits away because the people who need the system get screwed over. The abuse the system should have it taken away.

  16. I don't think the government should eliminate extended unemployment benefits. Granted a lot of people take advantage of the benefits they get but on the other hand, a lot of families rely on them. I think that they should come up with a system that only gives benefits to those who are trying to get jobs.

  17. The government should not eliminate unemployment benefits because people do need it and it can be hard to find a job. It is unfair to the people who need it to support their families. Just because some people abuse the system the government should not punish the people who don't by taking benefits away. There should be a way to only take it from people who do not properly use unemployment benefits.

  19. I do not think the government should get rid of unemployment benefits because for some people it is very hard to find a job that they can apply their skills to. People need money to fulfill their needs like food and family.

  20. in USA they already have a lot of problem with poverty and for some people the benefits is the only income they have if the government take way the benefits they would only make the poverty situation worse.
