U.S Poverty Rate Reaches New High

One in 6 Americans live in poverty, poor families have been in the worst shape sense the 1990s. With no college degrees it makes it harder for a person to get a job but the minority groups struggle the most. 27% of African Americans were in poverty in the 2010 census. The average poor person by definition has a standard of living higher then most people imagine. This article challenges the census bureaus results. The U.S has struggled with poverty through out our history. Should we use big government or less government to try and lower the poverty rates in the U.S?

  1. In my way to think to have more or last government is not the problem, the problem is the fact that people are not have enough job or opportunity to work so they can grow economic in life.

  2. i think that we should use more government. If you are stuck in poverty you cant really get yourself out that easy. If we had more government than maybe we could help the people stuck to get better jobs. i also agree with Nilton with their not being enough jobs and opportunity for everyone.

  3. I also think big government is appropriate in this case, but we have to make sure the government puts an effort into it. It's probably easier for the government to set up programs for people in poverty. I also agree with nilton, there is a need for more job opportunity. I think Barack Obama is right about people and there education, that education needs to be enforced more aggressively and made strong advised that if they don't take education as a factor, then potentially in life the face economic issue and won't have an economic life like nilton said.

  4. i think we should have more government because so many people are in poverty and they need a lot of help getting back on their feet so they can live a better life. i agree with donny i think setting up programs is a good idea or just donating money to organizations to help people get out of poverty so that isnt a big problem in the U.S anymore.

  5. Im not a huge person for the more goverment, but in this case im for the more goverment. We need to get the jobs back here. We found too much cheep work elsewhere. We need a way for jobs to come back

  6. More government because the government should create more jobs over here instead of sending major coorporations to other countries just because some work is cheaper over their because we are making the us look bad when 1 out of every 6 americans is poor. If they brought major coorporations over here it would open up multiple jobs and oppurtnities to get people back on their feet
